Syed Alwi Road is a minor road in the
Little India neighbourhood of
Singapore. It is a one way road with traffic flowing from
Serangoon Road to
Jalan Sultan, at the intersection of
Rochor Canal Road. In between, Syed Alwi Road is intersected by
Jalan Besar, and forms junctions to Lembu Road,
Kampong Kapor Road, Verdun Road, Jalan Berseh, Townshend Road, and King George's Avenue.
According to
Singapore Street Names1, Syed Alwi Road was named after Syed Alwie bin Mohamed Al Junied (1814-1858) whose father was an Arab merchant who relocated to Singapore from Palembang. He was also the cousin of another imminent Muslim of the Arab community, Syed Omar bin Ali Al Junied.
