Yan Kit Road, SingaporeYan Kit Road, Singapore

Yan Kit Road is a minor road in Outram, Singapore. It is a one-way street that runs from Craig Road in the north to Cantonment Road in the south. A small portion of the road forms the boundary between Outram and Downtown Core.

Yan Kit Road was named after Dr Look Yan Kit, a dentist by profession. Trained in Hong Kong, he became a much sought after dentist whose patients include Sultan Abu Bakar and members of the Johor royal family. His other successes enabled him to own some 70 houses and two rubber estates.

Look Yan Kit was one of the founders of the Kwong Wai Siew Hospital. The Yan Kit Swimming Pool was also named after him. It is the oldest and smallest swimming pool in Singapore. Also located along Yan Kit Road, the public swimming pool built as a water tank in 1931, and reopened as the Yan Kit Swimming Complex in 1952. In April 2001 it was closed by the Singapore Sports Countil due to low usage coupled with deterioration of the foundation that made repair ineffective.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
