SMK Haji Zainul Abidin is a secondary school along Hamilton Road, Penang.
SMK Haji Zainul Abidin traces its history to July 1964, when informal classes were started by Mr Lim Chiang Choo and Mr Khoo-Yeoh Gan Hong with students from Westlands Secondary School and Tanjong Secondary School.
The original site of SMK Haji Zainul Abidin was along Scotland Road, on what was a mangosteen plantation. The school was formally began on
11 January 1965, and was originally called the Scotland Road Secondary School. Through 1965, the land was levelled and two blocks of school buildings were built. The school was officially opened by then Chief Minister of Penang, the late Tan Sri Wong Pow Nee, on
10 November, 1967.
Scotland Road Secondary School was renamed the Haji Zainul Abidin Secondary School in 1972, in honour of a local Malay educationist. The school was noted for being the first in Penang to admit visually impaired students through the Blind Students Assimilation Programme which was started in 1982.
The school relocated to its present building along Hamilton Road on
12 September, 2009, after which its former site was taken over by Sekolah Menengah Agama Lelaki Al-Mansoor.
