Soka Gakkai (22 December 2009)
Soka Gakkai Malaysia is the local branch of Soka Gakkai International. It is located along Burmah Road, across the road from
Kolej PTPL. It was founded in Japan in 1930 by Tsunesaburo Makiguchi. The name Soka Gakkai means "value creation education society". The purpose then was to transform Japan's education system, which was very militaristic at that time, to one that is more humanistic.
Soka Gakkai places much emphasis on Nichiren Buddhism. The umbrella body called Soka Gakkai International was formed in 1975 to offer support to practitioners of Nichiren Buddhism. It also works to promote peace education and cultural exchange.
