Negombo (Sinhala: මීගමුව; Tamil: நீர்கொழும்பு) is lovely beach resort on the west coast of Sri Lanka. It is located within a stone's through from the Colombo International Airport.
Negombo Beach offers wide stretches of sandy beaches punctuated by fishing villages fronting the Indian Ocean. While the beaches of Negombo are not as clean as those of the tourist belt further south, they have a special charm provided by the fishermen's sailing boats. Hotels, bars and restaurants have sprung up to cater to the tourists.
I arrived at Negombo Beach on our first day in Sri Lanka. I was there with a small group of AsiaExplorers members. We arrived in the early hours of the morning, and I only had the chance to walk the beach for a short period before breakfast. Negombo Beach was my introduction to Sri Lanka. Before long, our coach and tour guide have arrived, to take us on the start of our Sri Lanka tour.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
