Entrance of Hatadage, Polonnaruwa, once flanked by stone punkala, or "pots of plenty", of which only one remains. (29 August, 2005)

The
Hatadage, just next door to the
Atadage is built for the same purpose, to protect the sacred Tooth Relic, which is a symbol of royal power in ancient Lanka. There are three Buddha images at the back end of the temple bearing the name of Nissanka Malla, though it might not be him who built it.
Like the Atadage, the Hatadage has a ground floor housing images while a upper floor houses the sacred tooth relic. It is also identical in size to the Atadage, there is still a parapet surrounding it.
