Sri Muniswarar Temple, Taman Supreme, Perai (11 September 2015)
Sri Muniswarar Temple (GPS: 5.380455, 100.395138) is a Hindu temple in
Taman Supreme,
Prai. It is located just beside Jalan Baru. The temple has an entrance tower and main tower, or
rajagopuram. These are intricately embellished with sculptures.
I made a visit to the Sri Muniswarar Temple on
11 August, 2015, in the company of my friend Michael who brought me there to have a look. It was raining heavily when we got there, and we hurried into the temple. At the entrance I saw a banyan tree onto which devotees have tied various coloured cloths. I suppose (I am not sure), these are the wishes.
As with most Hindu temples in the country, Sri Muniswarar Temple follows the Dravidian architecture. It comprises a
mandapa, or covered columned porch which surrounds the
vimana (Tamil: விமானம்), the sanctuary in which the image of the Hindu deity is installed. Looming over the temple is the
gopuram, the multi-tiered tower that are intricately embellished.
To the side of the temple is a multi-purpose hall, Dewan Sri Muniswarar, which is also part of the temple. There is a spacious parking area on this part of the complex.
