Sri Selva Vinayagar Hindu Temple (GPS: 5.38847, 100.38102) is a quite a substantial Hindu temple in Taman Inderawasih, Prai. Sri Selva Vinayagar was originally a much smaller temple. It has undergone a reconstruction that cost over RM3 million, and the new temple building is one of the landmarks of Taman Inderawasih.

The project began in 2008, when the deities were relocated to a temporary site in a Palasthabana ceremony. This intention to reconstruct came about following the construction of the Butterworth Outer Ring Road, and in particular the Prai River Bridge, which resulted in the temple being 5 feet below the street level. Furthermore, roadworks caused cracks to appear on the ceiling and vimana of the temple. By the end of 2014, the temple was near completion and should have been completed by 2015.

I took the following photographs on 15 August, 2015, when the sky was a bit hazy. I returned on 11 September, 2015, to reshoot the temple, when I saw that then sky was blue.

Getting there

If you are coming from the Penang Bridge, take the Butterworth Outer Ring Road and exit it just before the Prai BORR Toll Plaza. Go along the Prai Main Road (Jalan Besar) and then make a U-turn under the Prai River Bridge. Sri Selva Vinayagar Hindu Temple is on the north side of Jalan Besar, across from the elevated Prai River Bridge.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
