Sri Sithi Vinayagar Temple, Butterworth (17 August 2015)
Sri Sithi Vinayagar Temple (GPS: 5.41174, 100.37124) is a Hindu temple in
Bagan Luar,
Butterworth. The temple along
Jalan Bagan Luar traces its history back to the beginning of the 20th century. It began as a shrine established Ponusamy Pillai to worship the Hindu deity Ganesha. This deity is also known as Vinayagar.
In keeping with Hindu tradition, the temple was rebuilt at specific intervals and a reconsecration ceremony, or Kumbabhishegam, held at the completion of the rebuilding. The temple has been within the same family, passing down to the second generation K. Namasivayam, then to his daughter K.N. Annapoorani, and then to her son.
Sri Sithi Vinayagar Temple underwent an expansion, following which, it held a consecration ceremony on 2 November, 2014. This is the latest consecration ceremony since the previous one in 1963.
