Sri Veerama Kaliamman Devasthanam, Gelugor (1 July 2007)
Sri Veerama Kaliamman Devasthanam (GPS: 5.3689, 100.3105) is a Hindu temple in
Gelugor, Penang. It traces its history to a small shrine of the Tamil settlement of Gelugor, at a time when the Tamils were breeding cattle in the area. To the Indians, the area was once known as Perai Tholam, or large estate, referring to the cattle and coconut estates that were in Gelugor until the mid 1960's.
The Sri Veerama Kaliamman Devasthanam has an ornate
gopuram, or entrance tower, with sculptures of deities and beasts, completed in multi colors.
