Sri Weld Food Court (GPS: 5.41777, 100.34286) is the biggest hawker centre within the banking area of George Town, Penang. It occupies a plot on Beach Street. There are numerous stalls here selling a wide range of hawker food. Among those that I notice include the nasi lemak, the economy rice, pau and gu bak koay teow.
I went to Sri Weld Food Court because someone told me that the gu bak koay teow stall that relocated from the Victoria Street Bus Terminal. I had enjoyed the gu bak koay teow there many years ago, so I was very much looking forward to trying it at Sri Weld.
Kwang Beef Noodle Food Review, 24 March, 2014: I learned that the gu bak koay teow stall at Sri Weld Food Court is called Kwang Beef Noodle. My wife and I came here once on a Saturday, only to find out that it is closed on weekends and public holidays. We finally get the chance to try the gu bak koay teow here on Monday, 24 March, 2014.
We ordered the big bowl, which costs RM9.00. Here's how it looks like:
Kwang Beef Noodle, Sri Weld Food Court (24 March 2014)

So, after trying it, what do I think of it?
Unfortunately, with much regret I have to give it failing marks. On the whole, my wife and I find that the gu bak koay teow lacks stuff (boh3 liau3) for a RM9 big bowl. But my main grievance is that the beef is not property prepared, so it still has a high degree of bovine smell to it. This is unacceptable for a stall that has been operating for ages. I do not recollect the bovine smell at the Victoria Street stall, but that was so many years ago, probably decades. Nonetheless, this is the basics that has to be done right for gu bak koay teow to be acceptable.
Timothy Tye trying out the gu bak koay teow at Sri Weld Food Court (24 March 2014)
Of the gu bak koay teow in Penang that I have tried, I have to rank it behind the ones at Lam Ah (opposite Beach Street Fire Station), Kafe 2828 (Perak Road), Kang Beef House and Sin Yin Nam Cafe (New Lane).
Postscript
After I have posted this review on Facebook, someone said that the seller doesn't look the same as before. Could that be the case, that the stall has been taken over? Whatever it is, I have had my expectation deflated.
Getting there
The nearest bus stop is along Beach Street (Lebuh Pantai). It is served by the CAT free shuttle bus.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
