Here we are in our bedroom at Lexis Suites Penang (16 January, 2016)
My wife and I had a wonderful stay at Lexis Suites Penang on 16-17 January, 2016. This is a new resort hotel, the first in Teluk Kumbar, on the south side of Penang Island. The resort is the tallest building in the village, affording a splendid view of the bay of Teluk Kumbar. (Well, with urbanization knocking on the door of Teluk Kumbar, I suppose it is just a matter of time before other high rises get here).
Check in time was 4:00 pm, but we arrived a little earlier (we were quite eager to check in). As soon as we got to the front desk, we were served welcome drinks in fluted glasses. And then, we were personally ushered to our room, the Premier Pool Suite, on the 13th floor of the hotel.

The Premier Pool Suite was a fabulous room. It measures 968 square feet, bigger than most people's homes. As with most hotel rooms, it uses keycard access. Upon opening the door, you enter an entrance hall, where if you wish, you may leave your shoes. There is a party wall preventing a direct view from the outside into the bedroom. To the left of the entrance hall is a small pantry, with kettle, drinking water, mugs, glasses and a box of tea and coffee bags. I noticed that they offer teas from TWG, a haute couture brand that was established (in Singapore) in 1837.

The main body of the suite is divided into two main sections, the bedroom and the bathroom. The bedroom has two king-size beds, and can accommodate a maximum of four persons including children. The mattress is very comfortable - so comfortable that we decided to lift up the bedsheet to check and discover that it is King Koil, the same as what we use at home! (On the other hand, I prefer my pillows at home - theirs are too soft for my liking; in any case, I always have an issue with hotel pillows!)
There is a Welcome Message from the hotel addressed to me by name, along with a fruit platter decked with strawberries, apples, grapes and a cape gooseberry. Also on the platter are a few chocolate pastries.

The large-screen television is hidden behind a glossy black panel. It "emerges" on the wall when you use the remote to turn it on. Lexis Suites Penang offers channels from the Internet. There aren't too many channels, but a good selection for different people. My wife and I enjoy watching BBC Earth and BBC Lifestyle the most.
The bathroom at Lexis Suites Penang is simply the biggest single bathroom of any hotel that I have ever stayed in. For once in a while, the toilet is a separate cabin, with its own basin and door, for complete privacy. The dry bathroom has an area to put away your luggage, followed by the wardrobe and two basins - for His and Hers? - and then the wet bathroom.

The wet bathroom has shower area, with a recessed ceiling shower head as well as a handheld shower, and a beanshaped bathtub. I noticed that they are using bathroom fixtures from Grohe, a famous German brand and largest manufacturer of bathroom fixtures in Europe.
Perhaps the most delightful part of the Premium Pool Suite is its outdoor features. The suite has its own plunge pool and steam room. We could take a dip in the pool - and I certainly did so a number of times! On the wall is a ring buoy which could be used as a flotation device as well as lifesave in case the need arises. There is a deckchair for us to sit and enjoy the gorgeous view, along with a pair of garden chairs and tables.

From the balcony, we enjoy the panoramic view of Teluk Kumbar bay, a vast and tranquil sea punctuated by the island of Pulau Kendi near the horizon. To our right is the coastline of Gertak Sanggul, while to our left is Sungai Batu and Permatang Damar Laut. Right below, and next to our hotel, is the popular seafood restaurant, Teluk Kumbar Good Friend Seafood.

There is a lot to explore in Teluk Kumbar just outside the door of our hotel. That evening my wife and I made the trip out to have our dinner at Khunthai Thai Seafood Restaurant. After that we took an evening stroll outside the hotel, just as its evening lights were turned on. The hotel is a sight to behold at night.

The rest of our stay is spent cocooned in the comfort of our suite. To be honest, it is so comfortable, we hardly desire leaving it to go anywhere else. Within the hotel itself is a common swimming pool, a gym, a children's play area and a games room. We saw that the karaoke lounge will also be opening soon. Time moves swiftly for us, and we were spoilt for choice over how best to spend our limited time at Lexis Suites.

We were so enjoying our stay at Lexis Suites that we woke up early the next morning. It was nice to simply stand at the balcony and watch the new day appears. Down in the sea, seemingly a world away from us, were fishermen going out in their boats to catch fish. The sea was like a sheet of glass sliced by the wake of their boats. It was a timeless image, a tranquil scene, so peaceful and so distant from the hustle and bustle of city life.

We had our breakfast at Roselle Coffee House, where, like everywhere else in the hotel, we were warmly received and ushered to choose any table of our choice. My wife opted for the Western-style breakfast while I had the nasi lemak set. After breakfast, we had but a few more hours at Lexis Suites, for a final dip in the plunge pool and a final use of its steamroom. And soon it was time to check out. We did so with reluctance, as we end our short holiday at Lexis Suites, a visit which we will remember for a long time to come.
I want to take the opportunity to thank Mr Michael Quay, the General Manager, and Miss Wong Hua Ying, the Director of Sales and Marketing, for giving us such a warm and hospitable visit to Lexis Suites Penang. I wouldn't mind coming here for another stay!
Lexis Suites Penang (GPS: 5.28721, 100.23276) is located on Jalan Teluk Kumbar, in Teluk Kumbar, Penang. It is about ten minutes from the Penang International Airport.
Thank you Lexis Suites Penang for a most memorable stay! (16 January, 2016)

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
