Gat Lebuh Leith, George Town, Penang (26 February 2019)
Gat Lebuh Leith is a minor road in George Town, Penang. It connects on one end to Farquhar Street. A newly created road, Gat Lebuh Leith is named as the extension to Leith Street, although the two roads do not meet. It was laid out to serve Shorefront Residences condominium.
Gat Lebuh Leith has an earlier incarnation called Leith Street Ghaut, which had become obscure over time. Going back even earlier, to the late 18th century, there was an earlier path here that predates Leith Street Ghaut. That earlier path was known as Martina's Lane, named after the common-law wife of Captain Francis Light, but that road was long expunged when Gat Lebuh Leith was created.
The whole area from the end of Light Street in the east to the present Eastern & Oriental Hotel in the west was once the property of Captain Francis Light. He has his house, in which he lived with his common law wife Martina Rozells, on the land that is today the school field of St Xavier's Institution.1

About this website
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
