Lorong Thaton, George Town, Penang (11 August 2022)
Lorong Thaton is a minor road in
George Town, Penang. It intersects with
Lengkok Burma. Only one half of Lorong Thaton is developed. This is the eastern half, which is lined on both sides with double-storey houses built in the mid 20th century. The western side of Lorong Thaton has a cluster of village houses which have somehow escaped urban development, becoming one of the few pockets of undeveloped land in George Town. These houses form the remnants of the village of Kampung Sireh.
Lorong Thaton took its name after the town of Thaton in Myanmar. As with Burmah Crescent, it is one of the many roads around
Burmah Road that were named after places in Myanmar, due to the Burmese village that used to be located in the area. Today Thaton Lane is a residential road with houses built in the 1960's.
