Sukkah Coffee House at Olive Tree Hotel Penang has introduced its new Dim Sum Buffet, which started on Sunday, 5 March, 2017. This is a full-fledged dim sum buffet, where diners can collect different dim sum items spread out at different food stations, without having to fill up order lists. There is a lot of items available, from the steamed to the deep fried.
My wife and I were guests of Olive Tree Hotel on the inaugural day of their dim sum buffet. Although I have had the pleasure of a test run a few months back, it was only now that the hotel was able to finally launch the dim sum buffet.
Some of the outstanding items at the dim sum buffet include the steamed carrot cake, crab meat balls, the deep-fried yam dumplings and the chee cheong fun, which is available with three different fillings namely prawns, scallops and char siew. This being a fully halal dim sum, no pork is used, but instead chicken and generous amounts of prawns and scallops.
There's also braised chicken feet at this buffet. The taste is excellent. However, both my wife and I felt that if the chicken feet were braised even longer, it would be even softer. This we fedback to their dim sum chef, Chef Aaron. Also, we asked the restaurant to look into the crispiness of the deep fried items. The disadvantage of having buffets such as this, where the items are waiting for guests to pick up, is that the deep fried items may lose their crispiness. So, while they may be very crispy when they were made ready, they have become less so when the guests put them on their plates. We duly provided our frank feedback of those areas, so that everything is perfect for the guests.
On the whole, my wife and I enjoyed ourselves greatly at the dim sum buffet. There is a lot of good food here, and we just couldn't try every item. We thank Olive Tree Hotel for having invited us to this dim sum, and hope to try out their buffets again in future.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
