Suling Hill (22 August 2015)
Suling Hill (GPS: 5.40697, 100.50936), also known as
Bukit Langkap, is a hill and meditation retreat in
Mengkuang,
Bukit Mertajam. The hill affords splendid views of the plains below, rolling all the way to the coast, with Penang Island in the horizon. From Suling Hill you can see the skyscrapers lining the skyline of
George Town in the distance.
I visited Suling Hill with my wife on 22 August, 2015. We arrived on a sunny day. The sky was a brilliant blue. From the viewpoint, we enjoyed the wonderful panorama of Bukit Mertajam and its surrounding villages. We saw that the slopes of Suling Hill was planted with various fruit trees. The grounds are well maintained, with manicured lawns and shrubs that are well pruned.

Going to Suling Hill
To reach it, turn off Jalan Kampung Mengkuang (State Route P129) to the junction as shown. The hill is known in Malay as Bukit Langkap. If you come from the direction of Exit 1505 of the
Butterworth-Kulim Expressway, the junction to Suling Hill is on your left, before
Masjid Jamek Kampung Mengkuang. The road up to Suling Hill is narrow and quite bumpy for a passenger car, as we found out. However, when we got to the top, we were rewarded with the wonderful views.
