Sungai Air Terjun, as seen from Scotland Road, Penang. (14 April 2009)
Sungai Air Terjun is one of the rivers that flows through
George Town. A tributary of
Sungai Pinang, it is the river that emerges from the
Botanical Gardens Waterfall. Although you might find a bit of trash floating in the water, on the whole Sungai Air Terjun is crystal clear. In places, river grass can even be seen growing on its bed.
Sungai Air Terjun has its source up
Penang Hill. From there it cascades down to the
Botanical Gardens Waterfall, from which it derives its name of Air Terjun.
Flowing through the Botanic Gardens, it continues through
Youth Park, past
Quarry Drive, Western Gardens,
Jesselton Heights and
Brooke Road. It is crossed by Scotland Road, from where it continues through the grounds of the Seri Mutiara.
Emerging from
Seri Mutiara, it is crossed by Ross Road as it meanders through the backyards. Finally it is crossed by York Road before reaching its confluence with
Sungai Pinang at
Dhoby Ghaut, near
Ayer Itam Road.
