Sungai Ara Market (13 August 2011)
Sungai Ara Market (GPS: 5.32363, 100.27017) is a community wet market in
Sungai Ara, Penang. Originally located at the junction of Jalan Sungai Ara (now called
Jalan Dato Ismail Hashim) and
Jalan Tengah, it relocated to a new building on Tingkat Sungai Ara 1 at the turn of the 21st century.
Sungai Ara Market serves the village of Sungai Ara which has all but disappeared under the development of the housing estate of Taman Sungai Ara. The market is a place for the housewives of the housing estate to get their fresh produce, an alternative to the bigger
Bayan Baru Market a distance away.
My visits to Sungai Ara Market
28 October, 2017
My wife and I decided to make a trip to Sungai Ara Market for breakfast. We had wanted to go to Taman Sri Nibong, but discovered that the coffee shop there was closed when we arrived (I think it must be due to Nine Emperor Gods Festival). Anyway, when we got to Sungai Ara, we saw that the market was in full swing. I did meet up with one of my Facebook followers, June, who told me that on other weekends, it is even more crowded. We parked out car and walked about before deciding to have our breakfast at
Kedai Kopi Siang Tatt.
