Sungai Nibong Gospel Hall (3 September, 2020)
Sungai Nibong Gospel Hall (GPS: 5.34542, 100.30316) is church building of Christian brethren in
Sungai Nibong, Penang. It is located at
Jalan Pantai Jerjak 1, behind the Mobil petrol station (now a Petron, the station was built many years after the church building was erected).
This is the church I have been fellowshipping since its very beginning in 1981. Being from the brethren assemblies, my family has been fellowshipping at
Burmah Road Gospel Hall from the time I was born until the early 1970's, when Island Glades Gospel Hall (IGGC) was established. As we were living in the Green Lane area, we moved to fellowship at Island Glades. I remember that our own home was used for Sunday School until the church building was made ready. Later on, my family moved to
Batu Maung, and we continued to fellowship at IGGC until SNGH was established.
Efforts to establish a brethren assembly in Sungai Nibong goes back to 1978. I remember the announcement in Island Glades Gospel Centre, about the desire to start an outreach on the south side of the island. There was a building fund and the brethren contributed whatever they could. The site of Sungai Nibong Gospel Hall was part of the land belonging to the late Tan Sri Loh Boon Siew, whose daughter happened to be fellowshipping with us at Island Glades Gospel Hall.
Construction of the building took the better part of 1980 and 1981, and the Certificate of Fitness was issued in late 1981. I do not remember the first time my family had the Lord's Supper at SNGH, it must have been somewhere in 1983.
Now, after close to thirty years, and having myself moved a few times, I am still fellowshipping with the brethren at Sungai Nibong Gospel Hall.
