Sunshine Food Court is the air-conditioned food court within Sunshine Square in Bayan Baru, Penang. Originally located on the ground floor of the complex, the food court was relocated to the mezzanine floor a few year after. Since then, it has undergone a few rounds of renovations. Originally non air-conditioned, it was later fitted with air-conditioning and a glass partition was also added to reduce food odours.
There is a wide range of hawker food available at the Sunshine Food Court. The first stall closest to the staircase is the curry fish head, followed by the chicken rice stall. Among the food available at Sunshine Food Court the hotplate noodle, sar hor fun, fish head bee hoon soup, fried Hokkien char, wantan mee, tomyam noodle, Western food and fried rice, among others.
Sunshine Food Court Taiwanese Food
8 December, 2016 I had one of the most memorable meals - at a place I least expected, bringing back memoriesn of my first trip to Taiwan thirty years ago.
10 August, 2014: On this visit, we tried the yee foo mee. No, it is not as nice as the Hokkien char I tried previously. After I tasted and enjoyed the Hokkien Char here previously, I have had high hopes that the Yee Foo Mee is going to be just as good. Unfortunately it was not tasty enough. Also, not salty enough and doesn't have the wonderful taste of yee foo mee. Next time I will stick to ordering the Hokkien char, unless I saw something else that I want to try.

On the other hand, the fried bee hoon that my wife ordered looks quite good. I tried a mouthful. It is also tastier than my yee foo mee. Okay, this one I can also try next time. My wife didn't think her bee hoon was very tasty, but to me, I quite liked it.

27 July, 2014: We returned to the Sunshine Food Court. This time, we tried the sar hor fun and the Hokkien char. The Hokkien Char was especially tasty, and as far as I'm concerned, comparable to some of the best Hokkien Char I have taken at at least two other stalls in Penang. To me, it is already very good, but if asked what else to do to further improve on it, I would say that I prefer my Hokkien Char to be slightly darker. Take a look at the egg noodles used in the Hokkien Char photo and perhaps you'd understand what I mean.
The Sar Hor Fun however is just average. It comes with eggs, but that's about it. I won't repeat the Sar Hor Fun order in future, but I would look forward to enjoying the Hokkien Car again.

30 May, 2014: I returned to test out the fish head curry. It has been a while since I have it. I never bothered to remember the taste before, but this time I pay attention.
Fish head curry meal (30 May 2014)
It was one of my "preferred" curry fish head, but this time around, I realised that it is a bit too sour for my liking. I would prefer it to be a bit less sour. Well, the rice seems rather low quality to me (alas, I should not be comparing it with rice I get at home) as it tends to stick together in a lump. On the other hand, the rice given was quite a lot. I made the mistake of ordering an extra plate before receiving my order, so had to struggle in finishing two plates of rice. Apart from the aforementioned, I do not have any other complaints.
The taste, over all, is still quite good to me. I paid RM32 for one fish head curry and one plate of vegetables. Though not exactly cheap, I am also aware that there are many other places where the same two items come to be more expensive.
