Sunway Hotel Georgetown Review Stay (16 August 2015)
It is always fun to be invited to a hotel stay, and I am one of those privileged people who get to stay at hotels the whole time (and also given VIP treatment each time). Of course, the purpose of my staying at hotels in Penang is so that I can offer would-be visitors a glimpse at how the hotel is like.
I am well aware that my hotel experience will never exactly mimic that of an actual visitor, but this is as close as you would get, other than hearing the hotels promoting itself.
My wife and I check into Sunway Hotel Georgetown on 16 August, 2015. We parked our car on the second floor parking lot and made our way to the lobby. The check-in was smoothly handled by the front desk staff, Jhannani. While I was filling up the registration form, the hotel's Assistant Marketing and Communications Manager, Miss Natasha D. Mahtani, came out to greet me, to ensure everything is in order. We were given a parking chit to be shown to the parking attendant, so that we enjoy free parking as hotel guest.
We were provided a room on the seventh floor, with views of Komtar. Alas, the weather could have been better, for it was raining cats and dogs outside, so we remained in our room.

The house wifi has very good strength, and I was able to browse the web quite swiftly. Since it was raining outside, we cocooned in the room enjoying our king-size bed.
Later that evening, when the rain had exhausted itself, we ventured out into New Lane. There is a Chinese pastry shop next to the hotel, Ban Heang, and we found ourselves shopping there, like we were out-of-state visitors!

The next morning, the sky cleared up, so I went to check out on the swimming pool and gym. The pool is quite small for me. It's just sufficient for a dip. However they also have a whirlpool. It has a gymnasium with threadmills and other exercise equipment. As with most hotels I visited, both the pool and the gym are empty.
Time for breakfast. It's at the Sun Cafe, the hotel's flagship cafe on the ground floor. The food is spread on three sides of the cafe, as well as at a island counter. There are stations for you to order your eggs. There's the usual nasi lemak, porridge, breads, cold cuts, fried beehoon, and so on.

My wife and I had a wonderful breakfast at Sun Cafe. We thank Sunway Hotel Georgetown for the hospitality extended to us during our stay, particularly to the Director of Sales Miss Jennifer Lai and Assistant Marketing & Communication Manager Miss Natasha D. Mahtani, for making the arrangements for our stay.

Size of rooms and length of swimming pools can be measured, but hospitality can only be experienced. Understanding this, the numerous hotels in Penang have extended to me the opportunity to experience their hospitality so that I can showcase what they offer to guests on this website. Click details to see list of hotels that have invited me to showcase them.

About this website
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
