Dinner at Super Tanker on 26 August, 2016

My wife and I do not eat out often. For most of the week days, we eat at home. So I look forward to the coming of weekends, beginning with the dinner on Friday, when we would often eat out.

For this week (26 August 2016), we decided to go to Super Tanker in Sungai Dua. I have been to this hawker centre many times already over the years, but up to now, have not really developed a liking for any of its stalls. We don't eat here frequently, and it must have been many months (if not over half a year) when I last visited the place. However, I recently read on my Facebook Group that the satay and pasembur here are good. In particular, I read to the effect that the pasembur at Super Tanker is the same stall at the Balik Pulau Hawker Centre. As the Balik Pulau pasembur is my wife's favourite, we went to Super Tanker for the specific reason of trying the pasembur.

We arrived at Super Tanker at around 6:00 pm, and discovered to our disappointment that the satay stall was not operating. We are either too early or it is closed for the day. Nevermind, we found the pasembur stall and I ordered the medium (the pricing is RM3.80 small, RM4.80 medium and RM5.80 large).

Then I ordered also a wan than mee (RM3.60), a mee goreng (RM4.00) and a tosai (RM1.20) for my wife. Yes, the tosai is incredibly cheap compared to the other items. Here are all the stuff we ordered.

How do we find the food? In one word: lousy. All four items are below average. I suppose my big disappointment is reserved for the pasembur, because I thought it is the same as the one in Balik Pulau. It is nothing like our favourite pasembur of Balik Pulau, so I really could not believe that they are of the same stall. The gravy is too sweet. It isn't as spicy and lacks the "kick" of the Balik Pulau pasembur. The vegetables were soggy and the crackers were hard and not that crispy. The over sweet gravy of this pasembur makes me feel very jelak.

I don't have much to compliment the wan than mee nor mee goreng. The char siew looks incredibly red and unappealing. The mee goreng is also rather soggy and lacks the al dente feel. I did not try the tosai. According to my wife, it is just so so.

Not satisfied with all the four items, my wife left me to finish them while she went to order a piece of Aki Pancake, which is really ban1cien3koay4. She asked if I wanted one, but I was already too full, with these four not too tasty dishes. I have eaten Aki Pancake many times before. Though I didn't have it this round, my wife said it is the best thing of the five items we ordered at Super Tanker this evening. She had to wait a very long time to get her order - business was so good. Here's her pancake.

I noticed that Super Tanker was not very crowded. There are many empty tables. Perhaps we were too early, or rather, many people would rather eat elsewhere.
