Taman Sri Nibong Linear Park (5 July 2017)


Taman Sri Nibong Linear Park (GPS: 5.33054, 100.30017) is a recreational park in Taman Sri Nibong, in Sungai Nibong, Penang. It is bordered on the north side by Lebuh Bukit Kecil 5, from which it is accessed, and on the south side by the access road to the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway. It is one of two recreational parks in the housing estate, the other one being the main Taman Sri Nibong Recreational Park.

The setting up of Taman Sri Nibong Linear Park was officiated by the local state assemblyman, the Honourable Sim Tze Tzin, on 25 June, 2010.¹. Before that, the 2.5 hectare plot was becoming a garbage dumpsite. The land belonged to the Penang Development Corporation, which handed it over to the Penang State Government to create the park, at a cost of RM125,000.

The development of the Taman Sri Nibong Linear Park, and the ensuing planting of trees there, helps to create a buffer zone between the residential area and the expressway. This reduces noise pollution as well as cut down on dust from the expressway settling on the houses. The linear park is being developed over four phases, with the first phase being the laying out of jogging treks, a children's playground and outdoor gym equipment.
