Teluk Bahang Tua Pek Kong Temple (19 May 2012)
Teluk Bahang Tua Pek Kong Temple is a Taoist temple in
Teluk Bahang. It is dedicated to Tua Pek Kong, the Taoist god of prosperity, who doubles as the local guardian of the Chinese community in the area.
Every Taoist neighbourhood in Penang would have its own Tua Pek Kong Temple, which acts like the Taoist version of the Masjid Jamek or Catholic/Anglican parish church. But in the case of Taoism, the Tua Pek Kong has the role of being local protector of the community.
Male Guardian Lion at the Teluk Bahang Tua Pek Kong Temple (19 May 2012)

The Tua Pek Kong Temple of Teluk Bahang is located near the
End of the World. It is fronted by a pair of green guardian lions. If you observe the lions carefully, you will notice that Chinese guardian lions come in a pair comprising a male and a female. The male (usually on your right as you approach) has one paw on a ball which represents the world - it has the whole world in its hand, so to speak.
