The canopy of a tree, with Pulau Kendi in the distance (13 January 2016)
Teluk Kumbar Coast is the southern coastline of Penang Island. It stretches from
Sungai Batu in the east to
Gertak Sanggul in the west. The area has seen some residential development since the first decade of the 21st century, with more residential development expected here in the coming decades. The first 5-star hotel, the Lexis Suites Penang, opened to the public along the coast on 12 January, 2016.
At present, the Teluk Kumbar Coast directly faces the
Straits of Malacca. The view is interrupted only by
Pulau Kendi, which is to the western side of the coast. There are plans by the Penang State Government to develop the immediate foreshore of the coast with the creation of three man-made islands under the South Reclamation Scheme, details of which is yet to be announced by the Penang State Government at time of writing (7 March 2016).
