Hean Leng Kong Temple, Sungai Nibong (7 February 2019)
Hean Leng Kong Temple (GPS: 5.3401, 100.30306) is a Chinese temple in
Sungai Nibong, Penang. Located along
Jalan Aziz Ibrahim, it grew from a small shrine to its present size.
In 2017, the temple made the news when crowds of Chinese people, some traveling as far as Singapore, came to the temple to touch its
Arapaima gigas fish, known locally as dragon fish. According to devotees, there is a specific procedure to follow in order to ensure the prosperity is transferred. One must first offer prayers to the God of Prosperity at the temple before touching the fish, and one must touch it from head to tail, otherwise one might only strike consolation prize.
