Teong Leng Keong Temple, Jelutong (30 November 2008)
Teong Leng Keong (GPS: 5.38801, 100.30863; Traditional Chinese: 中靈宮, Simplified Chinese: 中灵宫), or by its full name Heah Boo Suah Teong Leng Keong, is a Chinese temple at the end of Lebuhraya Jelutong, the road beside the Jelutong Post Office. (Lebuhraya Jelutong has since been extended to connect with Lebuhraya Batu Lanchang, though there is no through passage). It is dedicated to Seong Tay Keong (TC/SC: 上帝公), one of the higher-ranking deities in the Taoist pantheon.
Teong Leng Keong was founded in 1974. At that time, it was known as Kew Seh Twah (literally, "Save-the-World Shrine") and was originally located at the junction of Jalan Magazine and Gladstone Road. It was relocated to another site in Jelutong on 30 February 1985, to make way for development related to Komtar. It was at that time that it was renamed Teong Leng Keong.

In 1994, the president of the temple committee visited Yuen San Si, an over 800-year-old temple in Heah Boo Suah, Guangdong Province, China, and brought back the heoh hueh (sacred ash or relics) of Hean Tean Seong Tay (or in Mandarin, Xuan Tian Shang Di). Hean Tean Seong Tay, often translated as the Dark Lord of the North, is the posthumous name for Xuan Wu. Xuan Wu is often associated with his vehicle, the Tortoise General and the Snake General. Statues of the tortoise is found at the entrance of the temple.
The Teong Leng Keong Temple was relocated to Lebuhraya Jelutong in 2002. It formed the Caring Charity Society in 2004. The society is active in running a recycling program that use the resulting proceeds for charity purposes. Within the compound of the temple is a Chinese-style pavilion and the statue of the Kuan Yin, the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara, also known as the goddess of mercy.

About this website
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
