Three Kings Monument, Chiang Mai (26 October, 2006)
Three Kings Monument (GPS: 18.79022, 98.98735; Thai: พระบรมราชานุสาวรีย์สามกษัตริย์ ) is a monument in a public square in the heart of the Old City of Chiang Mai, Thailand. It is located in front of the Chiang Mai City Arts & Culture Center, which was formerly the Provincial Town Hall building. The monument is an icon of the city and often appears in tourist brochures to represent Chiang Mai.
The Three Kings Monument depicts King Mangrai (centre) with his two friends - King Ramkamhaeng, the third Tai ruler of Sukothai (left); and King Ngam Muang, ruler of the principality of Phayao (right), where they made a friendship pact in the year 1287. The monument is venerated by locals who regard it as a shrine, and often go to worship the statues.
