Nakhon Sawan Province จังหวัดนครสวรรค์

Nakhon Sawan Province จังหวัดนครสวรรค์ is a province in the Central Region of Thailand. It covers 9,598 sq km (3,706 sq mi) and has a population of over a million people. It ranks 20th in size and 15th in population, though it is in 42nd place in terms of population density, among the 76 provinces of Thailand. The provincial capital is the town of Nakhon Sawan.

Nakhon Sawan is bordered by Kamphaeng Phet and Phichit province to the north, Phetchabun Province to the east, Lopburi Province to the southeast, Singburi, Chainat and Uthaithani provinces to the south, and Tak Province to the west. The province is the location, near the town of Nakhon Sawan, where the Ping River meets the Nan River to continue on as the Chao Phraya River.

Nakhon Sawan Province traces its history back to the Dvaravati period. The town was the southern outpost of the Kingdom of Sukhothai, and was later absorbed into the Kingdom of Ayutthaya. The golden era for Nakhon Sawan began in the 19th century, when King Mongkut signed a treaty with Britain, helping it to become a center of trade for rice and teak. However the local economy depended heavily on river transport, so when the railway line, bridge and highway were built, these contributed to an economic decline for Nakhon Sawan.

Nakhon Sawan Province comprises 15 districts or amphoe. They are Mueang Nakhon Sawan (Nakhon Sawan Town), Krok Phra, Chum Saeng, Nong Bua, Banphot Phisai, Kao Liao, Takhli, Tha Tako, Phaisali, Phayuha Khiri, Lat Yao, Tak Fa, Mae Wong, Mae Poen, and Chum Ta Bong. The districts are subdivided into 130 subdistricts (tambon) and 1328 villages (muban).

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
