Khanom Jin Muang Nakhon restaurant, Nakhon Si Thammarat (12 January, 2013)
Khanom Jin Muang Nakhon is a restaurant in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. It is located along Panyom Road. The restaurant specialises in Thai laksa. I was brought there for a meal by a friend who frequents Nakhon Si Thammarat regularly, and he recommended the place for its laksa, or as is known in Thai, khanom jin, literally "Chinese biscuit".
At Khanom Jin Muang Nakhon, I got a first-hand look at how authentic Thai laksa is served. Unlike back in Penang, where you are served the whole thing in a bowl, over here, everything is presented separately. There is a basket holding the white rice noodles, a platter with various greens, and three bowls of gravy.

We were also each given an empty bowl into which we add the noodles - amount according our own desire - then top it with the greens. There was cucumber, beansprouts, long beans, and various herbs that would be known in Malay as ulam. Of the three bowls of gravy, one is creamy and similar to the Thai laksa I am familiar with. Next to it is a dark gravy. I was cautioned that this one was very spicy (I love spicy food, but confirm that this is indeed frighteningly hot). Next to it is the red-pepper gravy, also hot but not as spicy as the dark gravy.
An adventurous soul that I am, I tried a little bit of each gravy. It was fun, but soon I found myself perspiring heavily. Nonetheless I enjoyed the Thai laksa very much. By the time we were done with out meal, it was close to four o'clock Thai time and the restaurant was closing for the day. I learned that it was opened since lunch time and we were the last customers around.

About this website
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
