Shrine of King Taksin the Great is a shrine in Wat Lum Mahachai Chumphon, Taksin Road, in the town of
Rayong, Thailand. It is dedicated to King Taksin the Great, the revered king who established the capital of Siam in
Thonburi, after the fall of
Ayutthaya to the Burmese in 1767.
The shrine marks the spot where King Taksin the Great tied his elephants to a tree. Having gathered men in
Chonburi and
Rayong, Taksin proceeded to
Chanthaburi, which was where he brought down the Burmese army.
With the victory in Chanthaburi, General Taksin was eventually crowned King Taksin the Great of Siam in Thonburi.
