Wat Chedi Chet Thaew (GPS: 17.43085, 99.78632; Thai: วัดเจดีย์เจ็ดแถว ) are the ruins of a sprawling Thai Buddhist temple in Si Satchanalai, Thailand. The name Wat Chedi Chet Thaew means Temple of the Seven Rows of Phra Chedi (but do not take the name literally). This huge temple complex covers a rectangular area in which is a main stupa and numerous smaller ones. Also found here are five mandapas, two viharns and one ubosot. In all likelihood, Wat Chedi Chet Thaew may have been built during the reign of King Li Thai (1347-1368/74). Today only the base and foundation stones are still lying there, the walls and ceiling were gone a long time ago.

The main feature - and its highest structure - is the lotus bud stupa, which is built in the Sukhothai style. It rises from a square base which is 13.5 meters on each side. Like boxes stacked one over the other, there are five tiers of diminishing size, with a box-like structure on top. From here rises the slender column of the stupa, culminating in the form of a lotus bud that is topped with a spire of rings. The tip is broken.

In front of it is the main assembly hall, or viharn. There is a pedestal here on which there would once have been a seated Buddha statue, though part of the legs is still visible.

Being one of the biggest temple ruins in Si Satchanalai, Wat Chedi Chet Thaew is also one of the most visited. You can expect other visitors wandering around the site when you are there. Main entrance is from the road to the northeast of the temple.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
