The Boat Food CourtThe Boat Food Court (6 December 2014)

The Boat Food Court is a hawker centre on Victoria Street in George Town, Penang. It opened some time in early 2014 - I didn't really notice it until it has opened a while. The food court got its name after The Boat sculpture, a replica of a boat which is installed at the rear side of the food court. Inside the food court, within an alcove, is the mural "In A Kopi Tiam Kitchen" by WK Setor.

I'm afraid to say this, but at the moment (December 2014), The Boat Food Court is better known for its street art than for its food. The food court does not have enough stalls operating. When I visited, there were only two or three stalls, and even then not doing good business. Most of the tables were empty.

I hope it can attract more hawkers to operate there and lure in the customers. To do this, it has to improve on its ventilation. In comparison, I find that CF Food Court across the road is more airy. I am not making this comparison to criticize The Boat Food Court, but in the hope that the management will take the necessary steps to draw more customers, to its own benefit.

Getting there

If you are coming from Weld Quay, go up Armenian Street Ghaut until it intersects with Victoria Street, and you will see The Boat Food Court on your right, across the street.
