Yesterday evening my wife and I attended what appears to be one of the most glorious Ramadan food review of this particular year. Although we have attended quite a number of Ramadan food reviews, the one at
The Light Hotel Penang is particularly outstanding.

The Light Hotel Penang's Ramadan Food Review
My wife and I had such a nice time at the Ramadan Food Review of The Light Hotel. Upon our arrival, each guest is given a name tag, which is helpful for us to be identified, and also for us to get to know fellow members of the print and social media. The spread from The Light Hotel this year is themed
Kampungku Citarasaku ("My Village My Flavors"). It brings together a dazzling array of perennial favourites among the Malay dishes, setting the mood right for the Holy Month of Ramadan.
Spice Brasserie, where the food review was held, is a large cavernous hall, and yet the hotel has managed to fill every corner with dishes. All in all, I believe there's over a hundred different items. But that's just a subset of their entire menu. I was told that the menu will still be rotated throughout the month of Ramadan.
My wife and I were completely spoilt for choice! What to eat first? I do not know. Everything looked so tasty. So we dived right in, trying this, trying that, and having such a good time enjoying all the dishes. Among the items which I remember include the Sotong Masak Lemak Tempoyak (what big, plump squids!), Gulai Udang dengan Nenas, Rendang Daging Lembu, Masak Lemak Telur Itik, Ayam Percik Madu and in two huge cauldrons, there were the Gulai Kawah.
Although this is a Ramadan buffet, we also found included in the menu, the dishes from other cultures. There's a Chinese Corner, with an action station whipping up very good char koay teow. And then there's also hot dim sum for the taking.
After we were done with the savoury dishes, we headed for the desserts, and it was a huge sugar rush! There's all sorts of kuih, such as the Tapai Ubi, Tapai Pulut, Kuih Suji, Apam Kelapa, Kuih Bahulu, Kuih Tiram, Dodol and much more. Western cakes are also represented here, including Red Velvet, Apple Crumble and various puddings.
How I wished I had a bigger stomach. Then I can enjoy more of the glorious spread. As it is, I had to be very selective of the items I tried, but I do enjoy it very much. Even before the night was over, I made it a point to tell the hotel how much I am enjoying the evening. They have truly outdone themselves.
