The Little Nyonya Cuisine, Queensbay Mall

The Little Nyonya Cuisine is a local cuisine restaurant at Queensbay Mall. There is also an outlet at Gurney Plaza. Yup, this is the restaurant with the life-size Axian beckoning you to come in. The restaurant offers a wide selection of local cuisine. There are à la carte dishes which you can order, to be accompanied with rice, as well as set meals of rice and noodles.

I have passed by The Little Nyonya Cuisine a number of times, and have noted that it draws quite a lot of customers. So my wife and I decided to give it a try. I ordered the Melaka Kapitan Curry Noodles (RM8.80) while my wife the Nasi Lemak Special (also RM8.80). For beverage, we just ordered plain water, which is RM0.80 each.

Our bill came to just RM19.20, plus 10% service charge, totalling at RM21.10. I find this very affordable. No wonder many shopping mall patrons decide to eat hear. I notice some people don't even order drinks, but I am glad that The Little Nyonya Cuisine makes plain water one of the drinks that are available.

At the price of RM8.80 per plate/bowl, and within an air-conditioned restaurant, there's really not much that I can complain about.

Both the Nasi Lemak Special and Curry Noodles are quite tasty. Having said that, we also find that both dishes are sweet. Even the curry is sweet. Both spicy and sweet at the same time. I have to say that, I think the majority of customers nowadays want their food sweet, so if you don't make it sweet, you are going to lose the bulk of your customers. Oh well.

There are a few pieces of chicken in my curry noodle, while the rest of the items that look like chicken turned out to be bean puffs or "tau33pork1". I suppose this is how curry mee looks like in Malacca. My wife commented on the nasi lemak, saying when is it that nasi lemak comes with pappadam?

I also have to comment that both dishes are quite aromatic. That's another bonus point to The Little Nyonya Cuisine, as often restaurant food don't smell of anything.

The Little Nyonya Cuisine offers a good alternative to the usual fast food restaurants, which aren't that cheap or value for money when you do a price comparison. No wonder it is doing such good business.

Looking at the storefront, I am a bit put off that it doesn't have its name in any other language except Chinese. Like everybody reads Chinese. Even coffee shops have to display their signs with Roman characters - how does this restaurant manage to get away with it? It does have in small letters "Dimiliki Oleh Little nyonya food industrial sdn bhd". Their usage of capital and small letters is atrocious - perhaps it's all the better that they don't subject us with improper wording in English or Malay.
