The Owl Museum (GPS: 5.42447, 100.26889) is a specialty museum in Penang Hill. It occupies the lowest level of the three-storey Cliff Cafe complex. You can see the exterior of the museum as you exit the Penang Hill Railway Upper Station and walk through the elevated corridor.
The Owl Museum has all things owl ... except perhaps a live owl. As I made my way through the museum, I came across owl paintings in water colour, oil and batik, to name some. There are numerous owl figurines in clay, porcelain, metal, wood and glass. A series of framed panels provide information on the common species of owl found in this region. There is also a series of flip-open interpretive boxes with details about owls.

Anybody who is into owl will find certainly have an owlsome time here, but for the rest of us, this museum is more a curiosity to which you part with some RM10 per person to kill time on Penang Hill. As is expected, the museum ends at the gift shop, where you can buy various owl-inspired souvenirs like t-shirts, soft toys, replicas and even owl coffee.
According to the museum, it has some one thousand owl-inspired artefacts, some of which are as old as 20-30 years. In Malaysia, there are 17 species of owl, out of a total of some 200 species worldwide.
The Owl Museum is a wonderful place for you to take your children and give them a good time learning about owls. As for adults, some of the owl figurines are indeed very nice, and I am sure a lot of passion has gone into assembling such a wide collection.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
