Tunku Abdul Rahman Bridge (11 December 2017)
Tunku Abdul Rahman Bridge, or
Jambatan Tunku Abdul Rahman, is the bridge carrying
Chain Ferry Road across the
Prai River. According to the National Archives, the then Prime Minister of Malaysia Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra himself officiated in the opening of the bridge on 16 October, 1965. The ceremony was attended by Dato' V.T. Sambanthan, who was the Minister of Works, Post & Telecom, and by Dato' Wong Pow Nee, the Chief Minister of Penang.
With the construction of the bridge, the chain ferry service on Chain Ferry Road was discontinued, as vehicles and pedestrians as both banks of the Prai River have been linked.
