The Malaysia Tye Clan Associaton of Penang 马来西亚戴氏家族会 (GPS: 5.40726, 100.31312), or Persatuan Keturunan Tye Malaysia, is a Chinese clan association in George Town, Penang. Also known as Persatuan Keturunan Tye Malaysia or simply Tye Kongsi, this is the clan association I belong to. Previously located at 20 Stewart Lane, a short distance from the Kuan Im Teng, the association relocated to Jalan Ismail Cik Mat at the end of 2016. Our ancestral hall is called Qiào Guó Táng 譙國堂.
The Tye Clan Association is for people holding the Tye surname, the majority of whom are Toishanese. The Tye Clan Association of Penang was established in the aftermath of the Second World War, to be exact on 23 November, 1946. However, Tye clansmen have already been in Penang for a number of generations earlier. My own father was born in Penang in 1909, and he is already the third generation Tye in Penang.
The Tye Clan Association previously had its association at 38 Gladstone Road. Its registration was approved by the Registrar of Societies on 22 February, 1949. With that, Tye clansmen had a celebratory dinner at the Penang Restaurant, which is an eatery in the then New World Park, and the event was attended by Tye clansmen from all over Malaya.
As this is the first Tye clan association in the peninsula, it was opened to clansmen from the whole Malaya, and included those from other towns and states. For that reason, the name Tye Clan Association of Penang was changed to Malaya Tye Clan Association.
The Tye clan association office at 20 Stewart Lane was purchased in 1949, and it has since become the clan ancestral hall. The association was known as the Malaya Tye Clan Association until 1985, when it took on its present name.
As you may have guessed, I am a member of the Tye Clan Association by virtual of my surname. However, I have never involved myself in any of their activities. As with most clan associations, their activities revolve around ancestral veneration. The association also maintains a low profile compared to other clan associations in Penang.

The Malaysia Tye Clan Association held a celebration at their new premises on Jalan Ismail Cik Mat in Caunter Hall, and I am among the clansmen invited. I am well pleased to attend, as I have never attended before. When my wife and I arrived there, we did not know anybody, but it doesn't matter, they were all very nice.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
