Vale of Tempe is a hilly area in the northern part of Penang Island. It got its name from the gorge in northern
Thessaly,
Greece, where in Greek mythology, was the favourite hunting ground of the god Apollo. The Vale of Tempe in Penang comprises the road,
Jalan Lembah Permai, as it winds its way from
Fettes Park to
Tanjong Bungah. This is a hill road. The Guillemard Reservoir is access from here. The properties in Vale of Tempe includes the working class village of Pepper Estate surrounded by the upper middle class districts of Tanjung Bungah, Tanjong Tokong and Fettes Park.

The Star reports of a landslide at a construction site near Lorong Lembah Permai 3 killed two Bangladeshi and one Myanmar construction workers. At time of writing, 11 workers including a 27-year-old local site supervisor remain unaccounted for.

Jalan Lembah Permai, also known as the Valle of Tempe Road, is quite heavy, despite it being a narrow, winding hill road. This is due to all the development that has taken place on the northern end, around TAR College.
