Can Tho (Vietnamese: Cần Thơ ) is a city in southern Vietnam. It has a population of 1.1 million people, and is the largest city in the Mekong Delta. The city is located by the bank of the Hau River, the biggest branch of the Mekong. Can Tho is the transportation hub and agricultural center for southern Vietnam. It is 169 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City, the largest city in Vietnam.
Can Tho was founded over two thousand years ago. During the ancient times, there as a kingdom named Phu Nam which was established in the area.
Visiting Can Tho
Can Tho is about 5 hours from Ho Chi Minh City. There are minibus services between Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho. The fare is about $8.00.
If you are coming from Hanoi, you can take a Vietnam Airlines flight to Can Tho. There are plans to expand services to Can Tho from other cities once its airport has been upgraded.
Getting around in Can Tho
There are buses and minibuses that you can take while in Can Tho. Be sure of where you are going by getting your hotel to write it in Vietnamese, to show to the driver.

Can Tho Floating Markets There are at least three floating markets in Can Tho that you can visit. The biggest is Cai Rang Floating Market. The second one is Phong Dien Market and the smallest is Phung Hiep Market.
