Den Ngoc Son, or Temple of the Jade Mound, is a small temple on a islet in the middle of Ho Hoan Kiem.

Den Ngoc Son is linked to the banks of Ho Hoan Kiem by the vermillion The Huc Bridge. Den Ngoc Son is open daily 8am-6pm, and there's admission charge. The patron of Den Ngoc Son is belived to be Tran Hung Dao, a legendary general who defeated the Mongols at the Back Dang River in 1279. Within the temple is a sculpture of the fabled tortoise that lend its legend to the surrounding Ho Hoan Kiem. Located to the south side of Ho Hoan Kiem is Thap Rua, the Tortoise Tower.

Den Ngoc Son is one of the central landmarks of Hanoi. It can be viewed from the lakeside, although the temple itself is often shielded from view by the surrounding trees.

Getting there

Den Ngoc Son, Temple of the Jade Mound is located in the middle of the Lake of the Returned Sword. You can reach it using the The Huc, or Sunbeam Bridge.
