Continental Hotel is one of the grandest hotels in Ho Chi Minh City. Built during the French administration, the hotel is set aorund a courtyard with frangipanni trees. The opulent interior includes red-carpeted staircases of tropical hardwood.
Unlike other historic buildings in Ho Chi Minh City, the Continental Hotel has been spared any form of "modernization", but has been well maintained as it is. Like the Caravelle Hotel, it has been a place where illustrious visitors had stayed, among them Walter Cronkite and writers Andr´ Malraux and Somerset Maugham. It was also featured in Graham Greene's novel,
The Quiet American. Greene himself stayed there for several months.
