Rickshaw Boy, "At the Waterfront" 3D Art, Made In Penang Museum (2 November 2013)
At the Waterfront is a 3D art along a passageway in the Made In Penang Interactive Museum. It depicts a scene of the George Town waterfront at the turn of the 20th century, when it was a bustling harbour. The three-dimensional street art shows the façade of George Town shophouses on one side, and the wharves on the other. Painted on the wall are Chinese junks and other sea-going vessels.
The At the Waterfront 3D Art was created at the suggestion of Mr Khoo Boo Hong, one of the partners in the museum. The idea was to spruce up the passageway, which was originally a carriageway of the Behn-Meyer Building, so that the building becomes more attractive. However, once work on this 3D art got started, plans began to unroll to turn the entire building into a museum of interactive art.
The main artist working on this piece of 3D art is Willy Loh. He worked on some of the most important details, while other assistant artists add in the touch ups. In addition to the mural and trompe-l'œil on the wall, the artwork also includes a ricksaw, just like those in the days of old.
