Weld Quay Pedestrian Bridge (14 November 2012)
Weld Quay Pedestrian Bridge, now dismantled, was the oldest pedestrian bridges in Penang. It was built across Weld Quay in 1975. Weighing 20 tons, it was erecte3d as part of the ferry expansion programme of the Penang Port Commission.
The original purpose of the bridge was to convey pedestrians between the Jetty, also known as
Pengkalan Raja Tun Uda, and the George Town Bus Terminal, then located off
Victoria Street. The bus terminal has since been relocated in front of the Jetty, so the pedestrian bridge serves as the crossing for people to get to the other side of the street.
The Weld Quay Pedestrian Bridge is also one of the biggest pedestrian bridges in Penang, second perhaps to the
Komtar Pedestrian Bridge.
