Wellesley Primary SchoolWellesley Primary School (2 July 2014)

Sekolah Kebangsaan Wellesley (GPS: 5.42328, 100.32729), formerly known as Wellesley Primary School, is a primary school in George Town, Penang. It is located on Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah (Northam Road) at the junction with Larut Road. The school was built around 1936.1. The school was also named after Richard Colley Wesley, The Marquess Wellesley, who was the Governor-General of India during the time when Province Wellesley was ceded to the British East India Company. (Note that his actual surname is Wesley, his father being Garret Wesley, 1st Earl of Mornington, but on the year of his birth, 1760, his father was made Viscount Wellesley, hence he inherited the surname Wellesley.)2

Wellesley Primary School is one of the main feeder schools for Penang Free School, together with Francis Light School. Among the prominent people who have gone to school there include Malaysian lawyer Tanasekharan Autherapady, the late Dr Syed Mahmood bin Syed Hussain Jamalullail (1921-2011) who led the first Malaysian medical delegation to China.
