Wesley Methodist Church Butterworth (GPS: 5.407944, 100.409422) is a major church in
Permatang Pauh. It occupies a plot of land at Lorong Arowana 3 in Taman Arowana. The church building was constructed at a cost of RM3.8 million. The new building can accommodate up to 500 people. In addition to the main hall, it has an office, meeting rooms and spacious space for parking.
The Wesley Methodist Church Butterworth established through church-planting effort of the
Chinese Methodist Church of Bukit Mertajam in 1961. The members of the church began holding English-speaking services, initially meeting at a house in
Bukit Mertajam. In 1966 the believers managed to secure a permanent site for their service at a shophouse on Jalan Pantai,
Butterworth, in 1966.
The land at Permatang Pauh was bought as early as 1971. It was a long journey from then until sufficient fund was raised to construct the church building. Construction only began in 2012 and was completed the following year. It was dedicated in 2014.
