Chung Siew Yin Building, now part of Wisma Great Eastern (21 August 2011)
Wisma Great Eastern (GPS: 5.42005, 100.34091), along Light Street, Penang. It comprises the original building, which was known as the Chung Siew Yin Building, and the new wing. Chung Siew Yin Building is a double-storey building was built in the mid 19th century. In 1952, it was restructured, with an Art Deco style wing added to it.
In 2005, another renovation took place, where a new 5-storey New Wing was added to the Chung Siew Yin Building, bringing a more contemporary style into the picture. The ground breaking took place on 25 April 2005. As the existing buildings are within the core zone of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the new wing has to blend in. The new wing provides an additional 82,000 sqft of lettable office space for George Town, and built at a cost of RM51 million.
See how a state-of-the-art modern wing is seamlessly integrated into the design of two heritage buildings, one dating from the mid 19th century while another from the mid 20th century.

About this website
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
