Wisma Pengakap, Penang (18 January 2013)
Wisma Pengakap is the headquarters of the Penang State Scout Council. It is located on Scotland Close (Solok Scotland), facing the junction of Jalan Air Itam with Scotland Road. The building was erected in the 1960s.
The scouting movement in Malaysia began in Penang when an experimental troop founded in 1910 at the
YMCA by Reverend Pykett but only registered in 1916. The present school-level scouting movement traces its beginnings to the troop founded by
Penang Free School teacher
Harold Ambrose Robinson Cheeseman on 27 March, 1915.
Today the scouting movement in Penang is divided into seven districts namely Georgetown South, Georgetown North, Balik Pulau, Bayan Lepas, Butterworth, Bukit Mertajam and Nibong Tebal. The Yang Di Pertua Negeri Pulau Pinang, or governor, serves as the Patron of Penang Scouts.
