Woman Construction Workers MuralWoman Construction Workers Mural (1 June 2013)

The Woman Construction Workers Mural (GPS: 5.41219, 100.3319) is a pair of wall murals gracing the side walls of Hui Aun Association, along Magazine Road, in George Town, Penang. The mural honours woman construction workers who formed a significant proportion of the members of the Hui Aun Association.

Woman construction workers were blue-collar workers who provided an important contribution to the local construction industry, right up to the mid-1970s. Many of these China-born women worked tirelessly and contributed in the construction of residential as well as commercial properties in Penang. Though some eventually returned to China, many married local men and are now part of the local Chinese community. The murals at Hui Aun Association attempts to celebrate their industry as well as their grace.
