The Woodlands Special Thali set (28 February 2016)
Today is a Sunday. My wife and I thought we would go down to Beach Street for the famous gu bak koay teow coffee shop. (We heard that the old seller has relocated, and so we were keen to try out the same thing with the new seller.) But when we got to Beach Street, we saw that the coffee shop was closed. After some quick thinking, we parked at Market Street, and walked down to nearby Penang Street. There are a good number of Indian restaurants along the street. We saw that Sri Ananda Bahwan at the junction of Penang Street and China Street has completed its renovations and has reopened, but we weren't in the mood to eat there. So we continued down the road and ended up at Woodlands Vegetarian Restaurant.
The restaurant was only half empty when we got in. But not for long. Just moments after we have sat down, other groups started coming in, and pretty soon, all the tables were filled up. We felt lucky to have arrived slightly ahead of others. Or else we would not have gotten a table.
We usually go to Woodlands in the evening, for its dinner. But today was a change that we went there during lunch time. Looking through the menu, we settled upon the Woodlands Special Thali. This is a stainless steel tray overlaid with banana leaf. All the dishes come in little stainless steel cups. There was rice, a chappathi, two papads (parpadam), dhall, sambar, rasam, kulambu, curd, chilli and three types of vegetables.
The rice, sambar and rasam are unlimited, but I could only eat one serving of them, for even without meat, it was a most filling lunch. I enjoyed this meal very much and hope to come back to try their other lunch dishes.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
